The water pump transports water from the tank through the fully automatic coffee machine.
However, it is only one component of the complete fluid system.
Depending on the machine generation, the water path includes the water-tank connection, AquaClean filter, flow meter, pump, hoses, heating system, valves, brewing unit and beverage outlet, among other things.
A problem at just one of these points can result in less or no water appearing at the outlet.
A vibration pump can change its operating noise considerably if it receives no water or only a small amount of water.

A closed or blocked valve can also obstruct the water flow.

The water tank is the starting point of the complete fluid system.
Philips recommends regular cleaning of the water tank on its fully automatic coffee machines.

A problem with the water tank may later appear to be a pump or fluid problem.
The coffee-grounds container and drip tray are also part of regular machine maintenance.
The drip tray does not only collect accidentally spilled water. During automatic rinsing and internal pressure-relief processes, water is also directed there by design.
A certain amount of water in the tray is therefore completely normal.
Only if the amount changes significantly compared with previous behaviour should a technical fault be investigated.
A large or suddenly increasing amount of water can have different causes.
Possible fault areas include the brewing unit, valves, seals or other internal fluid components.
It is particularly informative to determine whether considerably less coffee is reaching the cup at the same time.
In this case, part of the intended brewing water may be diverted elsewhere.
Water underneath or inside a Philips fully automatic coffee machine can originate from numerous areas.
Possible causes include the water-tank connection, hoses, plug-in connectors, O-rings, pump, heating system, valves or brewing unit.
For successful diagnosis, it should be observed as precisely as possible when and where water escapes.

Weak coffee can have different causes.
In addition to a grind setting that is too coarse, the bean variety, aroma setting, coffee quantity, brewing unit and water flow may be relevant.
On a new or reset machine, the automatic adjustment process may initially also play a role.
A grinder should therefore not be replaced solely on the basis of the perceived taste.
The moisture of the ejected coffee grounds can provide information about the brewing process, but should not be evaluated in isolation.
The grind setting, coffee quantity and selected beverage quantity influence the consistency of the coffee grounds.
Unusually large amounts of water in the brewing-unit or grounds-container area can additionally indicate a fluid or sealing problem.
A precise inspection of the machine interior is more helpful in this case than immediately replacing the brewing unit.
Mechanical blockages can be caused by contamination, insufficient lubrication at designated areas or a drive fault.
The brewing unit should not be moved by force.
It should first be checked whether the machine can be correctly returned to its home position and whether the removed brewing unit moves freely and is clean.
For designated sliding points, food-grade silicone grease can then be used sparingly.
This fault often occurs when the pump does not receive sufficient water.
The water tank, AquaClean filter, air in the system and possible blockages of the water path should be checked in particular.

A changed grinding noise or significantly longer grinding time can have different causes.
In addition to wear, the bean supply, type of beans, foreign objects and grind setting must be taken into account.
Especially if a blocking noise suddenly occurs, the grinder should not be started repeatedly.
