NIVONA uses conical grinders with grinding components made of hardened steel in its fully automatic coffee machines.
The grinder grinds the coffee beans immediately before preparation and therefore has a major influence on grinding quantity and particle size.
However, different grinder versions have been used depending on age and machine generation.
A grinder ring or grinding cone set should therefore not be selected solely on the basis of the NIVONA brand.
The actual grinding work is performed by the grinder ring and grinding cone.
With increasing operating time, the grinding surfaces can change.
This can alter grinding performance and the quantity of coffee produced, among other things.

Especially with NIVONA, the Aroma Balance System can deliberately change the brewing process.
A difference in taste may therefore be caused by a setting and does not necessarily indicate a technical defect.
The NIVONA Aroma Balance System does not simply operate through a different grind setting.
Instead, the actual brewing process is influenced through different profiles.
Depending on the machine, several aroma profiles are available with which extraction behaviour and therefore taste can be changed.
When troubleshooting, it should therefore be checked whether a change in coffee quality may be related to the selected settings.
A finer grind produces smaller particles and can increase the resistance of the coffee puck.
Coarser ground coffee, on the other hand, can allow faster water flow.
Both very slow and unusually fast coffee dispensing can therefore be related to the grind setting.
The grind setting should be adjusted in accordance with the operating instructions for the respective NIVONA machine.
Not every grinder problem is caused by normal wear.
Occasionally, small stones or other hard foreign objects can enter the bean container together with the coffee beans.
A suddenly hard, blocking grinding noise should therefore not be ignored.
In this case, the grinder should not repeatedly continue to be operated because this can place additional stress on the motor and mechanism.

Troubleshooting should therefore, wherever possible, proceed step by step through the fluid system starting from the water tank.
Replacing the pump on suspicion could otherwise leave the actual cause unchanged.
Depending on the fully automatic coffee machine and machine platform, different pump versions and connections may be used.
It is not only the pump itself that is relevant. The sealing of the connections can also be the cause of a leak.

Milk contains protein and fat and can quickly form residues inside narrow lines.

Rinsing operations and pressure relief direct water into the collection tray by design.
It becomes noticeable if the amount increases significantly compared with previous behaviour or if considerably less coffee reaches the cup at the same time.
In this case, the brewing unit, valves, seals or other fluid components may be relevant, among other things.
Water underneath or inside the fully automatic coffee machine can originate from different areas.
Possible causes include the water-tank connection, hoses, O-rings, pump, heater, valves or brewing unit.
For successful diagnosis, it is particularly important to observe when the water escapes.
Water loss exclusively during brewing may indicate a different area from a leak that already occurs with a filled water tank.
A pump that suddenly becomes significantly louder can indicate air in the system or restricted water supply.
The water tank, filter and water path should first be checked.
Air may also have entered the system after the water tank has run completely empty.
Only once the water supply has been ensured should an actual pump defect be investigated more closely.
If individual beverage functions fail while others continue to work, this can provide an indication of the affected water path.
If, for example, coffee works but hot water or steam does not, different valves or fluid paths may be relevant than in the case of complete failure of water delivery.
Systematic diagnosis should therefore always take into account which function still works and which does not.
In the event of milk problems, the complete Spumatore area should first be cleaned.
Depending on the machine generation, this includes the milk hose, nozzle, air supply and connecting parts.
For thorough cleaning of suitable components, Clean o Coffee milk-system cleaner and our brush for milk suction hoses can be used.
If the problem persists afterwards, technical fluid and valve components can be examined more closely.
After cleaning, a brewing unit should be able to be reinserted and locked without excessive force.
If this is not possible, the position of the brewing unit and the position of the locking mechanism should be checked.
Foreign objects or larger quantities of ground coffee in the mounting area can also interfere.
Force, on the other hand, can damage the locking mechanism, guide or drive.
A hard cracking or blocking noise should not be confused with normal grinder wear.
A foreign object may be located between the grinder ring and grinding cone.
In this case, the machine should not repeatedly be made to grind again.
After professional inspection, it can be determined whether only a foreign object needs to be removed or whether grinder components need to be replaced.
A beverage temperature that is too low can have several causes.
In addition to the heating system, temperature sensors, water flow, limescale or machine settings may be relevant.
A heater should therefore not be replaced solely because of a subjectively lower beverage temperature.
The cause should first be narrowed down as precisely as possible.
Not every malfunction requires a spare part.
A contaminated brewing unit, a scaled water path or milk residues can cause symptoms that initially appear to be a technical defect.
Conversely, even the best cleaning programme cannot repair a damaged O-ring, a defective valve or a worn mechanical component.

A technical repair should address the actual cause as precisely as possible.
A leaking hose connection may only require a new O-ring.
On a suitable design, a ceramic valve can leak at a small seal even though the rest of the assembly continues to function.
