How to Descale a De’Longhi Fully Automatic Coffee Machine – Guide
A De’Longhi fully automatic coffee machine should be descaled as soon as the appliance indicates that descaling is required. On many models, the water filter is removed first, followed by adding descaler to the water tank and filling it with the required amount of water. The appropriate descaling programme is then started and should be allowed to run completely, including all required rinsing cycles.
Important: The exact descaling procedure may vary depending on the De’Longhi model and appliance generation. Always refer to the descaling instructions in the operating manual for your specific machine.
Why regular descaling is important
Water hardness can vary considerably from one region to another. Particularly in areas with hard or very hard tap water, limescale gradually builds up inside the water-carrying components of the fully automatic coffee machine.
Without regular descaling, narrow water passages, heating components and valves can gradually become restricted or blocked by limescale deposits. Depending on the De’Longhi model, this may eventually result in error messages on the display or corresponding LED warning indicators.
If the machine is eventually no longer able to dispense water or coffee, a standard descaling cycle may no longer be sufficient. In this case, the appliance may have to be opened and partially disassembled in order to locate and remove limescale deposits and blockages. In the worst case, affected components may need to be replaced.
Regular descaling therefore helps to maintain the correct operation of the fully automatic coffee machine and can prevent unnecessary repairs.
How to descale a De’Longhi fully automatic coffee machine – step by step
1. Preparation
Remove the water filter from the water tank and use a suitable descaler according to the recommended dosage instructions. Suitable products include De’Longhi EcoDecalk or Clean o Coffee Professional Descaler with color Indicator. Then add the required amount of water and place a sufficiently large container underneath the relevant outlets.
2. Start the descaling programme
Start the descaling programme according to the operating instructions for your specific De’Longhi model. Depending on the appliance generation, the programme may be started using a dedicated descaling button, a rotary control or the display.
3. Complete the descaling and rinsing cycles
Allow the descaling programme to run completely and do not interrupt the process prematurely. Afterwards, complete all rinsing cycles requested by the machine using fresh, clean water.
